Pre-Draft Outlook
The Raptors finally committed to a new direction last season, trading OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam well before the deadline. They’re building around 22-year-old All-Star Scottie Barnes, who took a big step forward in his third season. It’s still a long way back to contention, and it doesn’t help that their first-round pick (No. 8) is going to San Antonio via a trade that hasn’t helped them so far.
The Way To Go
The Raptors are trying to develop Barnes into a versatile star who can line up at positions 1-4, so they can complement him in myriad ways and shouldn’t have any restrictions on who they select with their two picks in the Draft. But shooting is a priority, so Devin Carter, Jared McCain, Tristan da Silva, Tyler Smith, Ja’Kobe Walter, Kel’el Ware and Cody Williams should be on their Draft board. Other important decisions lie in free agency, with Immanuel Quickley a restricted free agent and Bruce Brown having a $23-million team option on his contract.
