Pre-Draft Outlook
The Kings have had great continuity, but it didn’t get them much this season, which might argue against it for next season. They won only two fewer games than in 2022-23 but dropped from third in the West to ninth, leading to their Play-In demise and lottery pick. The top eight in coach Mike Brown’s rotation may be back, pending sixth man Malik Monk’s free agency, but that crew dipped offensively (from 1st to 13th this season) even as it tightened up defensively. The Kings’ tendency to foul saw them get outscored from the foul line by three points per game.
The Way To Go
Wing Keegan Murray shoulders a heavy load as a designated shooter, one even weightier after his 3-point accuracy declined in his sophomore year. The Kings rely on the long ball (third most in the NBA) but sank them at a mediocre rate (16th), so shooting is a priority. Size also might matter on Draft night. Meanwhile, two players whose names have popped up in speculation are Duke guard Jared McCain and Baylor wing Ja’Kobe Walter. McCain is considered a professional scorer even before he sees his first paycheck, while Walter draws praise for his two-way value.
